Magenta's Rufina de Jago, CGC

July 3, 1997 - May 25, 2010

Rufina gave us our C and D litters

Rufina came to me when she was 6 years old, a little too old to begin competing in obedience. I first met Rufina when she was 2 years old and after I had recently acquired Micah from Joyce. As Joyce said, Rufina had great bone. She was 25" and about 72 pounds. Her temperament was wonderful, very stable and a devoted family member, alert and brave. Like Micah and Mia, her breeding is impeccable with over half (including duplicates from line breeding) of her five generation pedigree listed in Zwann's book. Not listed in Zwann is another very noteworthy dog, Arras vom Wehebach, SchH3, IPO3, FH, who is Rufina's maternal grandsire.

Rufina was a very good mother to the two litters that she produced for me. The first one is my C litter, sired by Magenta's T Micah v JesseBae, CD which arrived on December 6, 2003. From that litter I have Chelsea. The second is my D litter which arrived on February 5, 2006. This litter was sired by UDC CH Swift Run Showstopper v Kkro. BSA E1A BH UDC-CD WAC CGC, and it was a line breeding to Arras who is Stopper's paternal grandsire. Nine beautiful pups were produced and two of them, Danni and Fritz, were trained in Schutzhund, which made me very proud.

Rufina was CERF in 2005, her hips were OFA Fair, she was vet Gen certified Clear for vWD and her heart holter was normal in 2006. On April 23rd, 2008 Rufina passed her test and received her CGC. We celebrated Rufina's 12th Birthday on July 3rd, 2009; she received her Longevity Certificate #LC-1477F97-10L from the DPCA.

Rufina was exceptionally tough. She began having some difficulty standing when she was 12, apparently due to injury or late onset Wobblers. Her condition gradually worsened over a nine month period and she got to where she could not stand. Yet she refused to leave me. She was still happy to be petted and have her meals. I was forced to send her over the bridge on April 30, 2010 as she couldn't stand for several weeks.

No words are adequate to express how much I was blessed with Rufina's pups, as well as Rufina's company. One ear never stood and she was a touch long, not elegant, but her spirit was impeccable and she heart was beautifull to me.
